DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE Rocks Nepal-Tibet Border: Urgent Rescue Efforts Underway

A 7.1 magnitude EARTHQUAKE struck near the Tibet-Nepal border on Tuesday, causing significant devastation. China’s state media reports at least 95 fatalities and over 130 injuries. The epicenter was in Dingri County, Tibet, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake led to building collapses and panic in the Tibetan region, with severe damage reported in Dingri County. China has launched a level-II emergency response, deploying rescue teams for search and relief operations. President Xi Jinping stressed minimizing casualties and providing shelter amid harsh winter conditions.

In Nepal, memories of the 2015 earthquake resurfaced as tremors were felt strongly in Kathmandu but caused no major damage or casualties initially reported. Authorities are assessing impacts in remote border areas that might have suffered more damage.

Tremors reached parts of India like Bihar and Assam, prompting evacuations as a precautionary measure. This event highlights the Himalayan region’s vulnerability to seismic activity and underscores the need for disaster preparedness across affected countries as rescue efforts continue globally monitored.
