TERMINATING PRO CHOICE ARGUMENTS FOR LATE TERM ABORTION
Late term abortion is a ticking time bomb that the extreme left are trying to explode!
16 June 2021 | By Richard Ahern – The truth about late term abortion is that legalizing it haphazardly will create a generation of unethical monsters with no regard for life. It’s not needed and here’s why…
In this featured article we will debunk every pro choicer argument for abortion, one by one!
In these highly political times with both ends of the political spectrum fighting each other like rabid dogs, there is one topic that seems the most heart-wrenching and emotional, and that’s late term abortion.
Recently, the extreme left have been pushing back on abortion laws to the point where they want abortion legalised up to term and even celebrated.
They see it as a women’s rights issue, that it’s your body, your choice; even pushing for third trimester abortions to be legalised. That an unborn baby has no rights and no personhood until the moment it is born.
We have some striking statistics:
The number of late term abortions per year is difficult to measure as it’s a vague term on what defines ‘late’. However, the CDC in the US reported that 619,591 legal induced abortions happened in 2018.
There were 11.3 abortions per 1,000 women and the abortion ratio was 189 per 1,000 live births. Striking figures, that honestly, seem too high.
Thankfully due to strict abortion laws imposed by Republicans, only around 1% of these were performed at over 21 weeks of gestation.
Late term abortion fact check:
The term ‘late’ is a political one, not a medical one, so in this article, we will assume ‘late term’ meaning roughly 20+ weeks, where the baby could survive outside of the womb and that a surgical abortion would be needed to terminate the pregnancy.
The your body, your choice argument is fundamentally flawed. Most people understand that the fetus itself is genetically not your body. Any cells you take from your body, such as your arm, your leg, your heart, or your brain; take them from anywhere and do a genetic test on them.
They will all come back with the same 46 chromosomes, that is your genetic profile and every single one of your cells have that.
When a sperm fertilises an egg though, you then have a brand-new combination of 46 chromosomes, genetically speaking that is certainly not your body.
But that’s just one side of the argument:
The left also often use the analogy of a parasite, like a tapeworm, that a fetus simply lives inside the woman’s body, taking her nutrients, and it’s her choice whether she wants it. This comparison of an unborn baby to a parasite is what we argue will morally corrupt our society if taught to the masses.
So, why do people support abortion? And why late term abortion?
Here’s the most common arguments you will hear from someone who is pro choice and how you can debunk every single one of them…

The brutal truth (WARNING!)
Final point on how does abortion affect society?
My contraceptives could fail
One of the most common abortion arguments is that sometimes contraceptives fail.
That is true, but…
Let’s take a look at the actual failure rate!
If you do a Google search on the contraceptive failure rate, websites often provide you with two different figures. These are the typical use failure rate and the perfect use failure rate. The difference between perfect use vs typical use is how competent you are at using your contraceptive.
Typical use figures consider people forgetting their pill or the condom breaking, generally things that can be avoided with due diligence. Furthermore, for many contraceptives the typical use vs perfect use figure is the same because it involves a one-off procedure like an IUD or injection.
For arguments sake, let’s assume that a woman really doesn’t want to get pregnant so she picks a sensible contraceptive that she can use perfectly. Perfect use failure rates are tiny for hormonal contraceptives because they alter your biological ability to get pregnant on a chemical level.
For every year that a woman uses a hormonal contraceptive, around 0.1-0.2% (0.001/0.002 as a decimal) of them will get pregnant despite proper use (1 in 1,000 women per year).
For condoms, the failure rate is slightly higher, around 1-2% (0.01/0.02 as a decimal). Condoms are usually used as an STI defence more so than a pregnancy defence and most of time are combined with hormonal contraceptives.
Combining condoms with hormonal contraceptives gives a failure rate of approximately (0.001 x 0.01) x 100 = 0.001%, which is 1 in 100,000 women per year!
There are even natural methods of contraception that are effective such as timing intercourse around certain parts of the month. With advances in technology women can now use digital thermometers connected to their smartphones to track their cycle down to the day.
Generally speaking, a woman is usually fertile for a small window of time each month, this can be timed quite effectively or combined with other contraceptives for extra effect.
Here’s a real kicker:
As a final example, say we have a woman who uses the pill (0.1%/0.001 failure rate), her partner uses a condom (1%/0.01 failure rate) and she times intercourse around her natural cycle (2%/0.02 failure rate).
The chances she would get pregnant in that given year are (0.001 x 0.01 x 0.02) x 100 = 0.00002%, which is a staggering 2 in every 10 MILLION women (10,000,000)!
If a woman doesn’t want to get pregnant, she doesn’t have to!
The point we’re trying to get across is that the argument that contraceptives fail and that’s why late term abortion is needed makes no sense. We recently did a video about a young teenager, called Paxton Smith, who at her graduation speech talked about abortion laws in her state of Texas.
She said that she is so frightened that her contraceptives might fail or she gets raped and because of late term abortion laws, all her hard work at school will go to waste.
Firstly, if you are so fearful of getting pregnant, as we mentioned above, you can combine contraceptives and time your cycle to a point where the chance of getting pregnant is almost zero.
Late term abortion should not be there simply to allow girls to be reckless with contraceptives and not take responsibility for the results.
Contraceptive failure is not an adequate argument for late term abortions reasons.
But what about rape?
In the pro choice v pro life debate, rape and incest are usually brought up as an argument for abortion.
To be very clear:
If sadly, you are a victim of rape, we want to make it clear that we have the greatest sympathy for you and believe all rapists should be punished severely (castration even?).
But tell me this?
Why do rape victims need late term abortion? Early term abortion, maybe, there might be an argument for that with rape cases, but why late term?
If you’re raped, you know it, you know it immediately.
You can go straight to the hospital, and they will give you the morning after pill or another type of emergency contraceptive, which are very effective. You can then monitor yourself and take pregnancy tests, if you do end up pregnant you are at an extremely early stage and most abortions at this stage are done via pill.
There is no argument for late term abortion based on rape.
Yes, a decision does need to be made quickly if you’re pregnant and a victim of rape, but that’s life, decisions sometimes need to be made fast and you have to live with the consequences.
Imagine this:
Late term abortion illegal but early term is still allowed, a rape victim has the time to decide whether she wants to keep the baby. She could have an early term medical abortion or decide to keep the baby and consider other options such as adoption.
There are very few circumstances where late term abortion should be needed with rape cases.
Remember that for your next pro life pro choice debate!
Birth defects and to save the mother
These are the only medical reasons for late term abortion and we aren’t opposing them in this article.
If a baby has a known defect that would cause it to die after pregnancy, then late term abortion could be the most ethical thing to do.
There are also cases with birth defects where delivering the baby could put the mother at risk, again with these we agree late term abortion may be necessary.
Here’s why:
Birth defects are often very difficult to detect until later in the pregnancy and sadly, many mothers are informed of fatal fetal abnormalities very close to when they are due. These are tragic cases and are the only reason late term abortion should be allowed as an emergency medical procedure.
But this is the important bit:
The legality of late term abortion should state that it is only allowed in a hospital setting, with the agreement of multiple doctors, with strong medical evidence, that a birth defect is putting the baby and mother at risk of death or serious injury.
Statistically of the 10 most common birth defects we have heart defects, Down syndrome and spina bifida as examples.
Many states in America state that late term abortion is only legal if it threatens the mother’s life, we think that is fair.
Side effects of abortion
What the extreme left-wing and feminists never mention is that there are many abortion side effects, and the later the abortion, the higher the risk. All abortions, no matter how early, carry a risk that the mother will be permanently infertile after.
With late term abortion, where a sharp implement is stuck up inside you and poked around, the risk of fatal bleeding is something to really think about.
Late term abortion is not the saviour to women that the left make it out to be, it carries risks of infertility and ultimately death.
Broadly speaking there are two types of abortion, medical and surgical.
Medical abortions are early term, usually before 14 weeks and involve taking medication. The risks are substantially lower with these, the main risk simply being that another procedure will be to needed to remove parts of the pregnancy that have stayed in the womb. Serious complications such as heavy bleeding are very rare for early term medical abortions, about 1 out of 1,000 women will suffer.
A common drug combination is misoprostol and mifepristone which are used to end an early pregnancy. Side effects of misoprostol for abortion are generally stomach related and not substantial but can lead to more serious consequences such as vomiting blood.
Side effects of medical abortion long term are infertility, but this is rare. The data is clear though, even early term abortion carries risk.
It gets worse though:
Surgical abortion is what’s needed to terminate a late term pregnancy and that’s what we call a late term abortion or third term abortions (which are extremely rare).
Surgical abortion side effects are much greater, heavy bleeding is very common, sometimes occurring as often as 1 in every 10 women. Infection is also possible which can lead to infertility or death. Injury is a significant risk as the procedure is extremely invasive.
Side effects of abortion long term are difficult to measure and are often not reported properly.
What no one talks about:
The mental health consequences are often played-down, with many official websites stating that having an abortion does not affect a woman’s mental health.
We argue that it’s very difficult to statistically measure mental health (almost impossible) and that most likely abortion, particularly late term abortion, has significant detrimental consequences on a woman’s mental health.
The extreme left like to call pro lifers, pro birthers, saying that we want to force women to give birth to children they don’t want. The reality is that late term abortion carries many risks to the mother, which are often not talked about but are extremely serious.
Current Abortion Laws
Late term abortion rules vary from country to country and state to state. In the United States, red states, controlled by Republicans, usually have stricter laws on abortions and blue states, controlled by Democrats, have less abortion laws.
Here’s the deal:
Republicans and conservatives are generally pro life whereas Democrats and liberals are generally pro choice. The pro life definition is pretty self-explanatory, you are for the creation of life. The meaning of pro choice is that you believe the most important thing is that the woman’s rights and choice are respected.
The pro life and pro choice argument isn’t as complicated as the left make it out to be, if being pro choice is so much about women’s rights then what if the unborn baby is woman, are her rights being respected? That’s something we all need to think about…
In the UK, you can legally have an abortion up to 23 weeks and 6 days. In the United States, it varies from state to state.
States that allow full term abortion, with no state-imposed thresholds include Vermont (we’re looking at you Bernie!), New Jersey and Oregon, these would be called pro choice states or even pro abortion states.
States that allow late term abortion such as California and New York use fetus viability as a cut-off, so if the baby can survive outside of the womb, then that is the cut-off point, usually 24-28 weeks.
For example:
Late term abortion law in New York (blue state) legalises all abortions up to 24 weeks and allows abortions up to term if the mother’s health is at risk or there are birth defects. Abortion laws in Florida (red state) are the same.
On the other hand:
Texas (red state) governor Greg Abbott signed a new legislation that makes Texas a very strict state on abortion laws, which bans all abortions once a heartbeat can be detected, usually around six weeks, known as the ‘heartbeat ban’.
As you can see, abortion laws are very different in different states but many converge on that 24 week mark.
43 states prohibit abortions after a certain point in pregnancy, but the Democrats are pushing back hard on this in the hope of increasing that number of states that allow late term abortion.
The brutal truth (WARNING!):
The truth about late term abortion is that it is a brutal procedure that would be unbearable to watch for most people.
The truth about late term abortions is that most people could not live with themselves if they performed one.
Let’s be honest:
It’s often a case of ripping the unborn child out of the cervix piece by piece, arm by arm and leg by leg. At this stage, although heavily debated, it is widely acknowledged that an unborn baby does feel a certain amount of pain.
There have been cases of extreme late term abortion where the mother is induced to give birth and expel the baby naturally. The abortionist will have attempted to inject the baby with a lethal substance beforehand.
There have been late term abortion cases where the baby delivered is still alive, these people are known as abortion survivors and it’s a real collective group of people who advocate against abortion (no surprise there).
A late term saline abortion is a procedure that was common before 1970 that sometimes resulted in the baby surviving, but this method has declined in favour of more advanced ones. An abortion activist called Gianna Jessen was a survivor of a failed saline abortion.
She was born with cerebral palsy, which she says was caused by the failed saline abortion. She has dedicated her life to fighting abortion.
Shockingly, there have been stories about doctors murdering a surviving baby with scissors by cutting its spinal cord at the neck.
There was a particular case of an abortionist called Kermit Gosnell, who did just that and has been convicted on 7 counts of first-degree murder and numerous other charges where he endangered the lives of many women. He was also charged with 21 felony counts of illegal late term abortion and 211 counts of violating the 24-hour informed consent law.
This is gruesome:
When Gosnell’s clinic was raided by police in 2010, the investigators were appalled describing the clinic as ‘deplorable’. Fetal remains were haphazardly stored throughout the clinic– in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers. In some instances, surgical incisions had been made at the base of the fetal skulls and at least two, and probably three, had been viable and would have survived.
It is the most shocking and disgusting case of an abortionist who had abused his authority but also provides an insight into the reality of late term abortion and how abortion is done.
Although there shouldn’t be, there has been much debate among politicians over what rights a baby has if it survives an abortion, is it considered murder if a doctor completes the procedure in order to affirm the mothers ‘right to choose’?
Yes. It’s unequivocally murder and most people are in agreement on that except for the extreme left.
Final point on how does abortion affect society?
This brings us on nicely to our final point. What difference does it really make that the baby is now outside of the womb as opposed to in?
Why should the simple action of moving out a vagina into a doctor’s hands make so much difference to that baby’s rights? It’s almost as saying that people who live in houses have fewer rights than those who live outside.
It sounds silly, but the point clear, a simple physical location should be meaningless to the rights a baby has.
If that baby can survive outside of the womb, then it makes no difference whether it is inside the womb, outside the womb or anywhere else.
A late term fetus is a baby and that’s final!
It’s not your body, your choice, anyone who says that is quite frankly an idiot; genetically speaking of course it’s not your body.
We’ve thoroughly debunked the excuses of contraceptive failure and rape and admit that late term abortion may need to be reserved for fatal birth defects and to save the mother.
What the left never talk about:
Adoption is also a topic not spoken about much but an option to expecting mothers as opposed to termination. There are many families who go through intense heartache trying to conceive but are unable to. There are many loving and suitable families looking for children to adopt.
The question we want to leave you with is this:
If we regard an unborn baby as a parasite (like a tapeworm) with no rights until it leaves your body, where the creation of life has no value, what kind of society would that be like?
Really think about it. NO, REALLY THINK ABOUT IT:
Maybe the creation of life has no value, but as the human race what else do we have?
As humans, if we don’t regard the process of the creation of our beings as precious, then what is?
As an individual, I could live with that and I’m sure many of us can, but as a society who has no respect for the creation of life and sees unborn babies as no different from tapeworms, what would that be like?
If we instil in our children that the creation of life has no value, that until a baby is born, it’s ok to rip it limb from limb out of the mother as long as it’s ‘her choice’.
What will that do to the psychology of our children?
What could that next generation of people be like?
We argue that it will make them grow up that little less ethical, that little bit more likely to rip a ‘real human’ limb from limb and just a little bit more evil.
Here’s the bottom line:
The creation of life, the whole process of conception, pregnancy and birth should be valued and underpin the moral and ethical framework of our society. You can’t disregard life just because of where it is located, the whole process needs to be cherished.
Abortion should be taken extremely seriously and is certainly not something to celebrate as a woman’s right.
